Monumento helps you discover the hidden history of Japan!

Any tourist guidebook will give you plenty of information on Meiji Shrine or the Imperial Palace, but there’s a lot more to Japan than these big name destinations. Take a walk in any neighbourhood in Japan, and you’ll soon come across a temple or statue. Often there will be a placard describing the history of the site, but the information will only be in Japanese.

Monumento(O at the end is not typo) shows English/Chinese translation of them and also can speak the content so you too can understand these unknown gems of Japanese history.

At the website, http://monumen.to, you can upload the photo of placard you find that is currently not in the database of 4700+ entries. Our community will put the text of them. You can also join to the community and contribute to correct the current machine-aided translation.
